Sanding: 9/5/11

In this phase, I realized I would need to remove some irregularities from the surface of the face. The variations in the surface tend to hold paint and cast slight shadows. If this is intentional, the effect can be stunning! Rembrandt made some great paintings with very uneven surfaces. But this isn't one of them. . . so the variations had to go.
