Some like it wet, some like it dry. Paint, that is. I like working dry because it gives me more time to work, and less time to watch paint dry. I'm a control freak, so the other thing I like is the control I experience working dry. Control saves me from re-doing vast areas of the painting and having to let them dry before I can correct them. Again with the drying! So I am currently experimenting with a putty medium made from things that are very drying. It lets me work fast, and with greater control.
I have enjoyed starting with a medium-value ground. It's easy to add a lighter layer with putty, or add a darker layer with a glaze of oil paint and walnut oil. The medium-value areas will need little working oThis is similar to how the Old Masters worked.
