Hot and Cold Pastels: 9/5/11

Here, I took advantage of the chalk-board like nature of the surface to add some hot and cold zones to the face.
The next layer was a borax and skim milk glaze; the pastels blended completely and I was able to move them around a bit with the brush. When the borax and skim dried, the hues from the pastels were locked into place and the surface was ready for an oil and paint glaze in the dark areas.
